Hello Everyone,

This is YodaonDagobah, Troll Extraordinaire. At Meta's invitation, I've decided to drop by and witness the amazing amazement that is Ki Meela.

As far as I can determine through the brute observation of my senses, this message board deals with a work in progress being written by Bettawoman called... Meela. "Meela" means "to receive."

Well, needless to say, I am still pretty perplexed. Could someone give me some more information on Ki Meela, the novel, and what you guys do on this forum? Is "Ki Meela" from a real language or is it fictional? Oh, and let me know what you were smoking when you wrote part one

Hello Yoda!  Welcome to Ki Meela.  Earlier I thought Meta said he was going for a stroll.  But when I saw your post he said "No, I said I was going looking for trolls!"

What is Ki Meela? Ooooooooh...good guess about my work in progress.  It's a literary board for people who want to post their writing or poems.  I have a couple of private sites for people interested in participating in our Book Club and/or Writing Group.

As for Meela, she came to me in a wild and symbolic dream. I had already written 200 pages of the first draft of my novel.  I wrote the Meela piece and posted it on line on my blog site and continued on writing my novel with my main character, Navi.

After 'finishing' the first draft, I took some time to think about the whole thing.  It became more apparent that Meela's voice had to be introduced in the novel.  When I wrote about the dream, the name Meela just came to me - felt right.  When I reached the last line I realized that Meela, or Mila, in Punjabi means 'to receive.'  And so the questions became clear - "Ki Meela?"   What did you receive - or perhaps 'what are you reaping from your sowing?'

As for what I was smoking - well, I have to admit it was Sockeye Salmon.

o yeah, the forum is a bit Meela-centric ... good point. And that's not fair to some other writers in the group who might also try to do novels. I will change a couple things.

Thanks for the constructive criticism, o Master Troll

Well, I hope it doesn't discourage other people from participating.  Meela could also mean that you get what you put into something.  That's why I thought it was appropriate to the site.  It's not meant to be just about the character in my novel.

Meela,

Sounds interesting! I look forward to reading more of the Meela novel. Does it have a "plot," or is it an art piece? Believe it or not, I really responded to the free-flowing, "stream of consciousness" style you used in this piece. For a while now I have been wanting to write a piece that was purely flow of thought, without any plot or attention to form. I'd like it to be to writing what jazz is to music, so to speak. T.S. Eliot in prose. Nothing has materialized, however, and the book I'm working on now is simply narrative plot with some "psychadelic" moments thrown in, as when a group of characters suddenly bump into H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu.

How do I join your group?? I'd like to get on board.

Honest.  Looking over your website, seeing that you're pretty serious about your writing, i think you'd be a good addition. Only thing is this forum is supplemenry to an IRL writers group, so adding a cyber-only member has to jive with everyone else too.

But it'll take awhile to get it all going, probably, get everyone signed up and on board. So meanwhile why don't you post some stuff here, in the public forums, and show everyone abit of your own writing? And just post, hang out some, maybe let people get to "know" you? Then if it's cool, you're in!  Cool!

BTW, if you wanna join the Book Club forum, you're in. No prob.

Great! I would love to join you guys. I have been looking for a serious writers group to participate in for a while now.

I will post some work when I get a chance.

Wow!  Thanks for the compliment.  It is a powerful piece that I believe I can only take so much credit for!  It was a powerful dream.  I want the book to be an art piece.  But it must also have a common thread that shows up once in a while that carries it to the end.  Believe me, I don't know what the hell I'm doing, I'm just figuring it out myself!  I'm not even close to half way there yet!

When I wrote my first draft it was pretty linear.  It's just part of the process.  After writing over two hundred pages I actually had put the book away in some dark corner under a lot of junk and forget about it for a while.  I got out of the way.  When I was a student at a local art college the teacher gave us a lot of difficult conceptual assignments.  I'd be freaked until I learned to trust that my subconscious/intuition would come through for me in the nick of time!  The idea usually came together two days before it was due, or something nuts like that.

Hmmmm...sounds like Faith.  Anyway, that's another forum...

I say to get flow and music, think and listen musically.  I heard an author say that anyone who can tell a story can write.  I talk to people a lot on the bus on the way to work.  I tell stories, listen, laugh and express my opinion when really asked.  Talking to people are a great resource and inspiration to finding my voice.  Listen to how people talk.  Listen to their stories.  Observe them the way they are.  Flow and rhythm is life and the heartbeat.

A person should desire to do something that is distinctly their own.  What do you want in your wildest dream?  Ki Meeluga if you don't aim high?

Meela, thanks for the advice. Out of curiosity, have you published any of your material yet? I would like to read more from both you and dmg, particularly if your novels. I am very particular about what I read and I bore pretty easily; you are the first writers in a while who have captured my interest. There is such a powerful presence behind your words, such spirituality, such raw magic in the best sense of the word.

On another note, is "The Table" just for poetry, or do you also post novels there?

No, I  have not published any of my material yet.  I am now writing with a pen and it slowed me down.  It's more grounding.  Much of the writing has to be dug out of the pages and typed into the computer.

The first draft has a few gems, but Meela has taken hold now.  I will find something that I can share here with you.  Thanks so much for the affirmations about both our writing.  I know about being bored these days because I've been reading a lot of difficult stuff.  We read "100 Years of Solitude" in our Book Club and after that - the bar has gotten a little higher.

As this is a new forum, I think we still have to decide what it will be.  Do you mean to put up parts of a novel?

wow, that's quite a compliment!

glad we could capture your easily-bored eye ... thanks for the reads and responses

Nope, "The Table" is for anything anyone does for self-expression. You can also link to visuals, audios, pics of your sewing, your blog, post excerpts from of your journal, or ... or, i dunno ... anything.

Yes, I was thinking of posting parts of my novel, but the first chapter is too long for one post. I might break it down and just put up some highlights for comment.
